What is Fire Stopping?

Fire Stopping is the sealing of any openings to prevent fire (including smoke and heat) from passing through multiple building compartments.

As the Service voids and lift shafts generally stretch throughout the height of the building it is imperative that it is completely contained and cannot impact the integrity of the other compartments within the building, and there are no exits or entries that would allow fire or smoke movement.

This is done through the installation of Penetration seals which are vital in upholding compartmentation to prevent the spread of fire within a building. These Penetration systems are a primary requirement of the fire safety design in all buildings in accordance with the requirements of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Approved Document B Fire Safety.
